oil changes best price in bcRoutine maintenance is one of the best ways to keeping your vehicle safe on the road. And oil changes? Well, they are a critical element of your Ford’s scheduled maintenance.
The engine in your vehicle is comprised of many moving parts – and as these parts rub together, they create friction. Clean oil lubricates your engine and absorbs excess heat, thus allowing the internal components and systems in your Ford to work together effectively.
If your engine oil is old, broken down or dirty, it will not be able to do its job, which can lead to an unexpected breakdown – or worse, a major engine failure.
Your Owner’s Guide will specify how frequently you should change your Ford’s oil, but, as a rule of thumb, you can plan for at least twice a year or every 5,000 to 7,500 km. What’s more, spring is a great time to change your oil since one of the worst sources of contamination is water. Cold weather operation and short run times can lead to an increased amount of condensation in an engine’s oil. By changing the fluid, you can potentially avoid a headache down the road.
To book your spring oil change, contact our Service Department at Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C. to speak with an advisor.
ford service centre in bcSpringtime in the Lower Mainland – there’s nothing better! Tulips are blooming, people are enjoying the great outdoors – but, your car? It’s covered with a layer of road salt and is trudging along in winter tires. Spring is a time for rejuvenation – and that includes your vehicle.

Here are seven ways to give your Ford some TLC this season:
1. Clean the underbelly – Road salt is extremely corrosive and will damage the paint and frame of your vehicle. Each spring, give your Ford a good spray down with a garden hose using high pressure.
2. Replace your windshield wipers – Your wipers should be replaced every six months, especially before the rainy season begins. You want to be sure that your visibility isn’t compromised by worn-out blades.
3. Deep clean from the inside out – Just like you scrub your home each spring, your car deserves the same. This includes cleaning all surfaces and windows inside your vehicle (don’t forget your floor mats) and washing/waxing the exterior of your Ford.
4. Swap your winter tires – Once the outside temp climbs above 7°C, it’s time to switch back to your all-season tires for better fuel efficiency and performance.
5. Inspect your brakes – Road salt can also do a number on your brakes, especially the pads. When you swap your tires, have your brakes inspected to ensure they are in good working condition.
6. Check your alignment – Potholes are notorious for kicking vehicles out of alignment, which will cause your tires to wear down faster – plus your ride quality will suffer. To avoid these issues, have your alignment inspected each spring.
7. Measure your tire pressure – Temperature swings can wreak havoc on your tire pressure, which can cause poor fuel economy. Check your Owner’s Manual to ensure your tires are inflated with the correct psi.

wiper blade replacements in bcLiving in a climate that changes often, we're always having to swap our outfits and gear to stay ahead of the weather - and the same is true for your Ford. In spring, it's time to switch out your winter tires for all-seasons and maybe give your vehicle a good detailing too. But, did you know that it's important to replace your wiper blades?
With regular use, the rubber compounds in your wiper blades begin to break down and lose their efficacy. When this happens, they'll typically chatter, band, crack, split and bead. The result is reduced visibility for you, which is a serious hazard on the roads, especially in the Lower Mainland where we experience our fair share of precipitation.
A good rule of thumb is to replace your wiper blades in the spring and fall - the same time you swap your tires. And if that's not easy enough to remember, windshield wipers should be changed at least every six months. But if you do see signs of wear before then, you should change them right away.
At Key West Ford, we inspect wiper blades and arms on each vehicle in for service, so you can see better, especially in poor weather conditions.
If you are due for a replacement, our knowledgeable Service Advisors and Technicians can recommend the right set to fit your vehicle. It's an inexpensive fix that offers big results!

tire changeovers best price in bcWith the beginning of March upon us, you might be itching to swap out your winter tires (if your vehicle is equipped with them) and re-install your all-seasons or summers. March is typically a great time to switch your rubber in the Lower Mainland since the chance of cold temps, ice and snow are slim.
But, before you make the swap, there are a few things to remember:
It is not recommended to remove your winter tires if the temperature will dip below 7 degrees Celsius. This is the range where the performance of the specialized rubber comes into play by offering better traction and stopping abilities compared to all-seasons.
If you don't have space to store your winter tires, you'll want to figure that out since improper storage can damage the rubber. A garage is a great spot to keep them, but you won't want to stack them more than four tires high or hang them from the bead. If you don't have space at home, ask your Service Advisor about our tire storage options.
Proper tires
If the tires you are swapping into are damaged, worn or the wrong fitment for your vehicle, you'll need to purchase replacements for your Ford. When you come in for your changeover appointment, the new tires can be installed at the same time by our factory-trained Technicians.

ford automotive maintenance in bcKeeping your vehicle regularly maintained is essential to your safety on the road. However, sometimes things do go wrong.

If you experience
a breakdown, there are some things to bear in mind.
Pull over
If you suspect a mechanical issue with your vehicle, signal your intent and pull off to the shoulder, being sure that you position your car as far away from traffic as possible. If you are worried about being hit from behind, leave your vehicle and move to a safe location.
Remain visible
Make sure your car is visible to other motorists, roadside assistance operators and emergency crews by activating the hazard lights on your vehicle.
Take stock
Make note of any unusual sights, sounds, smells or warning lights and consider whether your car was responding differently before the breakdown. This information can be helpful when your Technician is diagnosing the problem.
Call for help
If you have a roadside assistance plan for your vehicle, call them with your location, a summary of the problem and a description of the car. However, if you break down on a busy highway or have been in a collision, call your local police and follow their directions.
At Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C., your safety is our top priority. Our factory-trained Technicians have the knowledge and know-how to keep your vehicle operating in top condition so you aren't burdened with unnecessary breakdowns.

Just like you rotate your mattresses or couch cushions in your home, the same should be true about the rubber on your Ford. The purpose of regular tire rotations is to extend the life of your tires, and it's an easy automotive maintenance item to have done to your vehicle.
But, a common question we often hear is, "How often?"
Our answer is this: as a general rule of thumb, you should rotate your tires every time you have an oil change completed on your vehicle. Or, if you prefer to go based on mileage, it's best to follow what's stated in your Ford's Owner Guide, which can range anywhere from 8,000 to 12,000 km, depending on your vehicle, its regular operating conditions and the like. Any longer than that and you risk shortening the lifespan of your rubber or experiencing a failure.

brake repairs in lower mainland bcThe automotive term "ABS" stands for anti-lock braking system. If the ABS light is illuminated on your Ford's dash, that means that the system has become deactivated due to a malfunction.
Your regular brakes will still work as promised, but the anti-lock feature that prevents your wheels from locking while stopping will not function. And, if your Ford is equipped with stability control or traction control, these systems will also be disabled since they rely on the same wheel-speed sensors as the anti-lock system.
That's a lot of key safety features that you won't be able to rely on in the event of a hard-stop. As such, it's important to have all ABS issues resolved, so your Ford can perform in optional condition.
A malfunctioning ABS can be caused by a number of scenarios, but it's usually a result of five things:
- A blown fuse for the system
- A wheel-speed sensor that is damaged or covered with dirt
- A broken wire between the sensors and the ABS controller
- A controller that has stopped working
- A faulty brake fluid pump or valve
The best way to diagnose the problem is to bring your Ford car or truck to our Service Department for an inspection. Our factory-trained Technicians will complete a thorough examination of your vehicle and address the issue with the appropriate repair or replacement part. After all, we know your Ford best - allow us to give it the trusted treatment it deserves.

Get Your Suspension and Alignment Inspected in Vancouver, B.C.

(Posted on Jan 31, 2018 at 05:00PM by Michelle Bogle)
suspension alignments in vancouver bcWinter brings a number of driving hazards to the Lower Mainland, like snow-covered roads, black ice and tough conditions. But, as we are nearing the thaw, another hazard will rear its ugly head - and that's the dreaded pothole.
Potholes are especially prominent this time of year since the freezing and thawing cycles within our region allow moisture to seep into the surface, causing our roads to crumble. When this happens, potholes form and pose a serious threat to your Ford's tires, wheels, and suspension components.
And while not much can be done to prevent the deterioration of our infrastructure, there are ways to protect your vehicle while you drive. Here are five tips:
1. Stick to familiar routes to help anticipate and avoid potholes.
2. Always travel on well-lit roads.
3. Drive the speed limit and remain alert - this will give you the opportunity to spot potholes before hitting them.
4. If you can't avoid a pothole, be sure to brake before impact since a gently rolling tire will experience less damage than one that skids or stops hard over a hole.
5. If you hit a pothole, carefully inspect your tires and wheels for possible damage and have your vehicle inspected by a professional if you notice any pulling or wobbly steering.
To learn more about your vehicle's suspension and alignment, contact our Service Department to speak with an advisor or to schedule your next maintenance visit. Early-spring appointments will go fast, so don't delay.

(Posted on Jan 31, 2018 at 12:30PM by Michelle Bogle)
car care in vancouver bcIf you have trouble keeping up with your vehicle's maintenance schedule, you are not alone. According to a study by the Care Car Council, an astonishing 84% of vehicles surveyed required immediate service. Among these issues were low or dirty oil, contaminated air filters and inadequate coolant levels.
And in the automotive world, these issues are very easy and inexpensive fixes when done regularly. But, when left neglected, they have the potential to lead to serious and costly repairs - not to mention that they also put your health and safety at risk.
That's why keeping on top of your Ford's preventative maintenance is so important. Here are other reasons to consider:
It saves you money
Preventive maintenance not only wards off expensive repairs, but it also helps you achieve optimal fuel efficiency, which can save you money on gas.
It increases longevity
Just like taking care of your health helps you lead a longer, happier life, the same is true about regular maintenance for your vehicle.
It improves safety
Keeping your car in top shape reduces the risk of malfunctions that could cause an accident or leave you stranded, like a blown-out tire, dead battery or seized engine.
To learn about preventative maintenance for your specific make and model of vehicle, contact our Service Department at Key West Ford to speak with an advisor. We will gladly book you in for your next scheduled visit for a time that's convenient for you.
