Key West Ford’s sales team ( my main contact Peter Olson) were a pleasure to deal with when I recently went looking to replace my 8 year old F150 pick up. Peter was very thorough in showing and explaining the dealerships new and pre owned vehicles as well as what new vehicles were available at other lower mainland dealers. I left the dealership to think about my options returning a few days later and purchased a great 1 year old ,well optioned pick up , exactly what I was looking for ! I’d like to thank Peter for answering all my questions on comparisons between different models, options, new or pre- owned, I’d also like to thank Michelle for making the “ paper work “ very easy to get through.

Winterize Your Ford in New Westminster, B.C.

Tags:
(Posted on Nov 16, 2017 at 06:24AM by Michelle Bogle)
winter tires in vancouver bcWhile we don’t get the same amount of snow as other parts of Canada, we do experience our fair share of winter in the Lower Mainland, B.C. And while driving on icy or snow-covered roads can be difficult, you’ll have a better chance of staying safe if you winterize your Ford before the temperature starts to drop.

Not sure how best to get your vehicle winter-ready? Here are some must-do maintenance items to complete this November:

1. Install winter tires:
As soon as the temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius, you will benefit from the enhanced traction and grip that winter tires provide. Be sure to also check the air pressure, as cold air can cause the pressure in your tires to drop, which can affect your Ford’s ability to grip ice and snow.

2. Check, change and top up fluids:
This includes everything from engine coolant and oil to windshield washer fluid and gas. Over the winter, always try to keep your gas topped up to avoid condensation in the tank.

3. Inspect wiper blades, battery, brakes and belts:
If any of these parts or components are showing wear, are in need of replacement or have passed their life expectancy, be sure to replace them now to avoid an unexpected breakdown on a cold, snowy night.

4. Check your air conditioning and block heater:
You’re a/c is responsible for defrosting and de-humidifying the inside of your car, so you want to make sure it’s functioning even in the winter months. The same goes for your Ford’s block heater.

5. Inspect your exhaust systems:
Look for leaks in exhaust pipes or the muffler, as this can cause carbon monoxide poisoning and decreased fuel efficiency.

6. Pack an emergency kit:
This should include some cold-weather supplies for you and your passengers, like a blanket, extra
hats and mitts, ice scraper, shovel, road salt, first aid kit, bottled water, snacks, etc. Should an unexpected breakdown occur, you want to be prepared.

deals onwinter tire packages in bcWhether we want to accept it or not, winter is headed its way to the Lower Mainland. And while you’re digging out hats, boots and warm coats for yourself, you should also consider the needs of your Ford car or truck.

This includes purchasing and installing winter tires on your vehicle.

While we may not get covered in snow each year, we do deal with our fair share of precipitation in New Westminster. As the temperature drops, this causes summer and all-season tires to lose their traction and control on slick roads, especially once it hits 7 degrees Celsius. This is also the temperature where winter tires kick into performance, thanks to the special rubber compounds that are designed to improve surface grip.

Rather than risk your safety (and those around you) this season, consider speaking with one of our knowledgeable Service Advisors regarding your winter tire needs. We’ll help you select the right type of rubber to suit your driving habits, road conditions and budget, plus we can install them for you too.

Tire Maintenance and Repairs in Vancouver, B.C.

tire repair shops in vancouver bcThe rubber on your four tires is what connects your Ford to the road and, if not properly maintained, can affect your vehicle’s ride quality, traction and safety. Your tires have an important job, that’s for sure!

That’s why it’s critical to always keep up with your regular maintenance and repairs to reduce unnecessary tire wear and to improve your vehicle’s handling and fuel economy.

Here are some tips to keep in mind:

1. Have your Ford’s alignment checked (on all four tires) at least once a year or when you notice any signs of improper handling or uneven wear. Our Technicians can adjust the camber, caster, toe and thrust angle to help remedy the problem.

2. Always request a wheel alignment when you purchase a new set of tires to extend the life of the rubber.

3. Once a month, check the inflation pressure on all four tires, plus the spare. If it is too low or too high, be sure to adjust it to the recommended pressure.

4. Follow the service interval in your Owner’s Guide for tire rotations and opt to have your wheels balanced at the same time to reduce wear on shock absorbers and struts.

5. When servicing or installing new tires, inspect your vehicle’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) at the same time to ensure proper function.

Want to learn more?
Please contact our Service Department at Key West Ford to book your next maintenance appointment. Our experts will ensure that your tires are in great condition and we can even recommend and install replacement tires should your car, truck or SUV require a new set.
battery inspections in bcYour Ford’s starting and charging systems are important components of your vehicle, as they ensure dependable and reliable operation each time you get behind the wheel.

This includes your battery. Its job is to store electrical energy, which the starter converts into a mechanical force to turn the engine on. If the battery is dead or not functioning as it should, your vehicle won’t get very far.

What Causes Wear?
There are four common causes of battery wear:

1. Driving habits, such as frequent engine on/off cycles
2. Extreme weather conditions, mainly in the winter and summer
3. Usage and vehicle age
4. Excessive electrical draw, like from in-vehicle entertainment systems

What to Look For?
Here is a list of battery failure warning signs. If you experience any of these issues, it’s best to bring your vehicle in for a service inspection:

Dim headlights and interior lights
Illuminated Check Engine and/or Battery Light
Accessories fail to operate
Car doesn’t start or starts slow
Engine whines or squeals when running

Trust Our Service Experts
At Key West Ford, our factory-trained Technicians can help you keep your battery operating in optimal condition, or recommend a replacement should you need a new battery.

Steering and Suspension Inspections in Vancouver, B.C.

Tags:
(Posted on Oct 16, 2017 at 05:00AM by Michelle Bogle)
ford inspection service in vancouver bcThe steering and suspension systems in your Ford vehicle are key safety systems that relate to your car or truck’s handling and ride quality. Over time, these components begin to wear out and require replacement.

As such, regular inspections are required at least once a year (in conjunction with a wheel alignment) to look for signs of wear.

What Causes Wear?
Factors that affect wear can include your:

Driving habits
Operating conditions (i.e. potholes)
Vehicle type
Type of steering and suspension system
Frequency of regular maintenance

Of course, if you are an “extreme driver” (i.e. one that drives on tough terrain in dusty, dirty, stop-and-go and/or hot conditions), you may find that your steering and suspension systems need component replacements more frequently, compared to someone who does light commuting.

What to Look For?
If you notice that your Ford pulls to one side, has uneven tire wear, is loud, vibrates, bounces or loses control, you need to bring your vehicle in for an inspection right away, as these are key warning signs of a suspension or steering issue. If left unfixed, you risk having an expensive repair down the road, which is never a pleasant surprise.

Windshield wiper blades are a key service item on Ford cars and trucks, but many B.C. drivers fail to replace them often enough.

Did you know that wipers should be changed every six months? The reason being is that the blades are made from rubber and deteriorate over time, becoming hard, brittle and prone to breakage. When this happens, the wipers aren’t capable of properly cleaning a windshield, let alone providing clear visibility.

Rather than risk your safety in poor weather conditions, there are some warning signs to be mindful of. This Ford Service video explains more:

If your wipers are showing one or more warning signs, it’s time to replace them. Not sure where to go? Our knowledgeable Service Advisors and Technicians at Key West Ford can help! Not only will we recommend the right size of wiper blades to fit your vehicle, but we’ll even install them for you too.

oil changes in vancouver bcFall has finally arrived in New Westminster, B.C. and with it comes the promise of autumn hikes amongst the changing leaves, Thanksgiving road trips across the Lower Mainland, trick or treaters combing the streets of Vancouver, and many other fun festivities to ring in the new season.

It sure is an exciting time – and a busy one too! Before your schedule fills up with social commitments, consider booking an oil change at Key West Ford.

After all, a regular oil change is a very important part of proper car maintenance, but many drivers fail to keep up with this service. And the problem with missed or skipped oil changes is that it can decrease your vehicle’s performance, or worse – it can lead to engine damage, which is very expensive to repair.

Your Ford Owner’s Guide will outline the recommended service intervals for your particular make and model of vehicle. But, remember: if are an “extreme driver” (meaning you often drive in dusty or hot climates, stop-and-go traffic, or haul heavy loads), you’ll need to space your oil changes closer together. Better yet, if your Ford is equipped with an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM), it’ll alert you to your next required oil change, taking the guesswork out of this important service.

To learn more about your maintenance intervals or to schedule your next service appointment, contact Key West Ford today to speak with an advisor. Our factory-trained Technicians will get your car or truck in tip-top shape so you can enjoy autumn to its fullest!

Change Your Engine Air Filter This Fall

Tags:
(Posted on Sep 27, 2017 at 06:48AM by Michelle Bogle)
Just like you change your furnace's air filter in the fall, you need to give the same attention to your vehicle.

In the summer months, your car’s engine air filter collects dirt, debris and even bugs. Its job is to keep these harmful particles from entering the engine’s cylinders, allowing for optimal performance. When the filter becomes plugged, air pressure drops and your car's fuel economy, power and emissions begin to deteriorate. The longer you leave the dirty filter in place, the worse your vehicle's performance will get.

This video explains more:

That’s why we always recommend that you change your engine air filter as outlined in your Owner’s Guide, but especially in the fall.

To do so, all you need to do is book an appointment at our Service Department here at Key West Ford. Our factory-trained Technicians will change your filter and inspect the rest of your vehicle to ensure that your Ford car or truck is running safety, in top condition and not behind on any regularly scheduled maintenance.

To learn more about the importance of changing your engine air filter, contact us today to speak with an advisor.
