It's easy to forget that wiper blades are a safety feature on your Ford until you’re caught in heavy rain or snow, or you can’t see out your window because it’s covered in dirt or condensation. By then, you could be asking for trouble, as most collisions are a result of poor visibility.
Instead of putting yourself at risk, it’s important to replace your wiper blades every six months.
This is the ideal timeframe, as dirt, debris and road grime wear down wiper blades, and sunlight breaks down the rubber. Plus, if you wait too long to replace, the metal arms could rub against the glass and scratch your windshield, which is far more expensive to repair versus replacing your wiper blades.
Not sure if your car or truck is due? If so, contact our Service Department. At Key West Ford, we inspect wiper blades and arms on each vehicle in for maintenance, so you can see better, especially in poor weather conditions this fall.
If you need a replacement, our knowledgeable Service Advisors and Technicians can recommend the right set of wiper blades to fit your vehicle and even install them for you.

Whether we want to believe it or not, summer is winding down and autumn is about to make its colourful appearance. And with that comes cooler temperatures, wet roads, fallen leaves and possibly even frost warnings.
If your tires are running low on tread, this could spell trouble in bad weather situations. That’s why we recommend that all Key West Ford customers inspect their tires at least once a month (or before embarking on a long road trip) to look for signs of tire wear.
An easy way to do this is by completing a quarter test. Here’s how:
1.Hold a quarter between your thumb and forefinger with the quarter head facing down.
2.Select a point on your tire where the tread appears to be the lowest. Insert the figurehead first into one of the grooves.
3.If the top of the figurehead is covered by tread, you're driving with a safe amount of tread. If your tread gets below that (approximately 1.5 mm), your tread life is reduced.
Most tire brands also come with built-in tread wear indicators as part of their construction. If these indicators are worn, then it’s time to replace your tires – and soon.

Proper wheel alignment is critical when it comes to keeping your Ford car or truck safe and happy on the road. However, it’s also one of the most overlooked vehicle issues. We see it time and time again in our Service Department – drivers whose cars are wildly misaligned (and showing all the signs), yet they are unaware of how easy it is to fix.
Not sure what to look out for? Here are four classic signs of alignment troubles:
1.Off-centered steering wheel: If you’re driving down a level road, your steering wheel should be sitting close to perfectly straight and it should also return to center after each turn. If not, your alignment needs correcting.
2.Vehicle pull: If you’re driving along a flat surface and you notice your vehicle pulling to the left or right, this is a telltale sign that your alignment is out of whack, plus it’s a safety concern too.
3.Abnormal tire wear: A properly aligned vehicle should have even tire wear across all four tires. However, if you notice wear on the inside or outside edges, or feathering and scalloping, that means your alignment needs adjusting.
4.Loose handling: If the steering in your car feels loose or unstable, one of the possible causes is poor wheel alignment. This can be felt as wandering all over the road when driving, or the car feeling very loose and sloppy around corners.
This video shares more helpful tips:
If you are experiencing any of these warning signs, a proper wheel alignment can easily improve your vehicle’s drivability. To book an appointment with our Service Department, please contact us at Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C.

Getting your Ford’s oil changed is an essential maintenance item, yet many drivers often forget to keep up with this service or they delay it indefinitely. The problem with missed or skipped oil changes is that it can decrease your car or truck’s performance, and it can lead to engine damage, which is very costly to repair.
That’s why at Key West Ford, we encourage all of our service customers to listen to their vehicles and to book an appointment for an oil change when the IOLM (short for Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor) displays a message on the instrument cluster.
This smart technology is more than just a simple oil quality sensor. Rather, it’s a software based, algorithm-driven device that uses various operating conditions of the engine to determine when the oil needs changing. Certain driving habits can affect the life of the oil, as well as driving conditions, such as temperature and extreme terrain. Lighter, more moderate driving conditions and temperature will require less frequent oil changes and maintenance, while more severe driving conditions will require more frequent oil changes and maintenance.
Of course, if you don’t have IOLM on your older model year Ford vehicle, you can still check the quality of your oil by using the dipstick. Better yet, leave it up to our service experts at Key West Ford by booking your car or truck in for a maintenance inspection.

Every time you get behind the wheel to drive, your engine is working hard to keep your car or truck in motion. And, with so many parts working together under the hood, your engine gets hot – very hot.
However, the oils inside your engine keep the combustion chamber cool, which allows the components to function at their best, while also ensuring that carbon and other harmful materials don’t build up in the engine.
Having said that, your engine is not going to perform well if its oil is dirty. Oil filters keep contaminants out, but if your filter is clogged, filthy or old, particles can get into your engine, which can lead to damage and poor fuel economy. In extreme cases, this can also result in engine failure.
To avoid an expensive repair, it’s better to invest in a fresh oil filter every time you change your oil. This is a very cost-effective and smart way to treat your Ford’s engine right, and to prevent a serious breakdown from happening in the future.
While we perform your oil and filter service, our Technicians will also take the time to inspect the rest of your vehicle to ensure that your Ford car or truck is running safety, in top condition and not behind on any regularly scheduled maintenance.
To learn more about the importance of changing your oil filter, contact our Service Department at Key West Ford to speak with an advisor.

Don’t wait until you hear squealing, squeaking or grinding to inspect your brakes.
By the time these sounds make themselves known, the damage has been done, likely to the rotors, which are a key component of your braking system.
Rather, make it a point to have your brakes inspected at regularly scheduled intervals, like when you are having your oil changed. This process won’t add a lot of time to your already planned maintenance visit. Instead, a quick inspection can help detect any issues with your brakes, which can be addressed proactively before any real damage can set in.
Your Technician will look for things like brake pad wear, cracked rotors, contaminated brake linings, leaks in the brake system, air in the lines, calipers in need of servicing, and other issues like warping or pitted rotors. If you do require replacement brake parts, our Ford Service experts can recommend the right parts for your vehicle, including our Genuine Ford or Motorcraft brake parts. Both brands are designed with your Ford vehicle in mind for the best fit, performance and longevity.
To learn more about the importance of regular brake inspections, please contact our Service Department today to speak with an advisor. If you are overdue for your next maintenance appointment, call us at Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C. to book your next visit.

When was the last time you had the tires rotated on your Ford car, truck or SUV? If it’s been longer than 12,000 km, you are well overdue!
Tire rotations are so much more than moving tires around to different wheel positions on your vehicle. They also ensure that the rubber wears evenly and maintains optimal traction, thus extending the life of your tires and keeping you safe on the roads. Plus, when you keep up with regular rotations, you maintain your tire manufacturer’s warranty, which is very important.
Watch here for more:
So, when should you have your tires rotated? The rule of thumb is every 8,000 to 12,000 km, or as stated in your Ford’s Owner Guide. Any longer than that and you risk shortening the life span of your rubber or experiencing a failure.
To book your tire rotation, please contact our Service Department at Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C. Before we rotate your tires, our factory-trained Technicians will also inspect your rubber and, if you require a replacement, we’ll happily recommend the best options to suit your budget, vehicle and driving habits.

For most B.C. drivers, air conditioning is a necessity, not a luxury. As the weather starts to sizzle, a cool vehicle interior is an absolute must when ensuring a comfortable driving experience.
But, over time, A/C systems can lose their cool and blow warm or hot air inside the cabin. That’s usually a sign of low refrigerant, a leak in the climate system components, a faulty cooling compressor, a dirty cabin air filter or something worse.
The best way to avoid these troubles is by having your Ford’s A/C system inspected yearly – preferably before summer’s arrival. Watch here for more:
If your Ford car or truck is giving you the sweats, book an appointment with our Service Department for a complete A/C inspection. If we find that certain components need to be replaced to ensure optimal performance of your car’s cooling system, our Ford Service Experts can handle those for you on the spot, so that you can get back on the road again – quickly and comfortably.
