Windshield wiper blades are a key service item on Ford cars and trucks, but many B.C. drivers fail to replace them often enough.

Rather than risk your safety in poor weather conditions, there are some warning signs to be mindful of. This Ford Service video explains more:

Book Your Fall Oil Change at Key West Ford

(Posted on Sep 29, 2017 at 05:00AM by Michelle Bogle)
oil changes in vancouver bcFall has finally arrived in New Westminster, B.C. and with it comes the promise of autumn hikes amongst the changing leaves, Thanksgiving road trips across the Lower Mainland, trick or treaters combing the streets of Vancouver, and many other fun festivities to ring in the new season.
It sure is an exciting time – and a busy one too! Before your schedule fills up with social commitments, consider booking an oil change at Key West Ford.
After all, a regular oil change is a very important part of proper car maintenance, but many drivers fail to keep up with this service. And the problem with missed or skipped oil changes is that it can decrease your vehicle’s performance, or worse – it can lead to engine damage, which is very expensive to repair.
Your Ford Owner’s Guide will outline the recommended service intervals for your particular make and model of vehicle. But, remember: if are an “extreme driver” (meaning you often drive in dusty or hot climates, stop-and-go traffic, or haul heavy loads), you’ll need to space your oil changes closer together. Better yet, if your Ford is equipped with an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM), it’ll alert you to your next required oil change, taking the guesswork out of this important service.
To learn more about your maintenance intervals or to schedule your next service appointment, contact Key West Ford today to speak with an advisor. Our factory-trained Technicians will get your car or truck in tip-top shape so you can enjoy autumn to its fullest!

Change Your Engine Air Filter This Fall

(Posted on Sep 27, 2017 at 06:48AM by Michelle Bogle)
Just like you change your furnace's air filter in the fall, you need to give the same attention to your vehicle.
In the summer months, your car’s engine air filter collects dirt, debris and even bugs. Its job is to keep these harmful particles from entering the engine’s cylinders, allowing for optimal performance. When the filter becomes plugged, air pressure drops and your car's fuel economy, power and emissions begin to deteriorate. The longer you leave the dirty filter in place, the worse your vehicle's performance will get.
This video explains more:
That’s why we always recommend that you change your engine air filter as outlined in your Owner’s Guide, but especially in the fall.
To do so, all you need to do is book an appointment at our Service Department here at Key West Ford. Our factory-trained Technicians will change your filter and inspect the rest of your vehicle to ensure that your Ford car or truck is running safety, in top condition and not behind on any regularly scheduled maintenance.

battery replacement vancouver bcThe crisper morning air is a reminder that fall is around the corner in New Westminster, B.C.

It’s also a subtle reminder to make sure that your vehicle is in top shape for the colder months ahead. This includes inspecting your battery so that it won’t fail when you least expect it.
Here are some battery care tips to consider:
1. Test or Replace Your Battery Now
The hot summer months put extra strain on your Ford’s battery. Don’t wait until a sudden breakdown to swap your battery for a new one – be proactive and do it now, especially if your battery is older.
2. Check the Battery & Charging System
If you have a newer battery, it’s wise to inspection it in the fall, along with the charging system. Cold weather is hard on batteries and they don’t always give warning signs before they fail.
3. Keep Battery Connections Clean, Tight & Corrosion-Free
It’s important to properly maintain the components around your battery. Make sure cables, posts and fasteners are in good shape and check battery connections to confirm they are clean and tight. Use a stiff wire brush to clean off any corrosion or rust.
Concerned about your battery?
At Key West Ford, our Ford-trained Technicians will test your vehicle’s charging system at every service so that you won’t be inconvenienced by an unexpected breakdown. We’ll also perform a visual inspection of your battery and its connections to look for signs of wear. If you do require a replacement, we can recommend the right battery to suit your vehicle and install it on the spot.

Fall Wiper Blade Replacements in New Westminster, B.C.

(Posted on Sep 9, 2017 at 05:00AM by Michelle Bogle)
wiper blade replacement vancouver bcIt's easy to forget that wiper blades are a safety feature on your Ford until you’re caught in heavy rain or snow, or you can’t see out your window because it’s covered in dirt or condensation. By then, you could be asking for trouble, as most collisions are a result of poor visibility.
Instead of putting yourself at risk, it’s important to replace your wiper blades every six months.

This is the ideal timeframe, as dirt, debris and road grime wear down wiper blades, and sunlight breaks down the rubber. Plus, if you wait too long to replace, the metal arms could rub against the glass and scratch your windshield, which is far more expensive to repair versus replacing your wiper blades.
Not sure if your car or truck is due? If so, contact our Service Department. At Key West Ford, we inspect wiper blades and arms on each vehicle in for maintenance, so you can see better, especially in poor weather conditions this fall.
If you need a replacement, our knowledgeable Service Advisors and Technicians can recommend the right set of wiper blades to fit your vehicle and even install them for you.

Fall Tire Inspections in New Westminster, B.C.

(Posted on Sep 7, 2017 at 02:06PM by Michelle Bogle)
Whether we want to believe it or not, summer is winding down and autumn is about to make its colourful appearance. And with that comes cooler temperatures, wet roads, fallen leaves and possibly even frost warnings.
If your tires are running low on tread, this could spell trouble in bad weather situations. That’s why we recommend that all Key West Ford customers inspect their tires at least once a month (or before embarking on a long road trip) to look for signs of tire wear.
An easy way to do this is by completing a quarter test. Here’s how:
1. Hold a quarter between your thumb and forefinger with the quarter head facing down.
2. Select a point on your tire where the tread appears to be the lowest. Insert the figurehead first into one of the grooves.
3. If the top of the figurehead is covered by tread, you're driving with a safe amount of tread. If your tread gets below that (approximately 1.5 mm), your tread life is reduced.
Most tire brands also come with built-in tread wear indicators as part of their construction. If these indicators are worn, then it’s time to replace your tires – and soon.

Please contact our Service Department at Key West Ford to book your next maintenance appointment. Our experts will ensure that your tires are in great condition and we can even recommend and install replacement tires, should your car, truck or SUV require a new set. Call us today!

Proper wheel alignment is critical when it comes to keeping your Ford car or truck safe and happy on the road. However, it’s also one of the most overlooked vehicle issues. We see it time and time again in our Service Department – drivers whose cars are wildly misaligned (and showing all the signs), yet they are unaware of how easy it is to fix.
Not sure what to look out for? Here are four classic signs of alignment troubles:
1. Off-centered steering wheel: If you’re driving down a level road, your steering wheel should be sitting close to perfectly straight and it should also return to center after each turn. If not, your alignment needs correcting.
2. Vehicle pull: If you’re driving along a flat surface and you notice your vehicle pulling to the left or right, this is a telltale sign that your alignment is out of whack, plus it’s a safety concern too.
3. Abnormal tire wear: A properly aligned vehicle should have even tire wear across all four tires. However, if you notice wear on the inside or outside edges, or feathering and scalloping, that means your alignment needs adjusting.
4. Loose handling: If the steering in your car feels loose or unstable, one of the possible causes is poor wheel alignment. This can be felt as wandering all over the road when driving, or the car feeling very loose and sloppy around corners.
This video shares more helpful tips:

If you are experiencing any of these warning signs, a proper wheel alignment can easily improve your vehicle’s drivability. To book an appointment with our Service Department, please contact us at Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C.
