When Was The Last Time You Inspected Your Tires?

(Posted on Jul 13, 2016 at 01:10PM by Michelle Bogle)
automotive service centres new westTires are a key safety component on a vehicle, yet they are the most often overlooked. Rather than inspect their tires at least one a month, many drivers forgo this important aspect of vehicle ownership, which puts them and other commuters at risk.
In fact, proper tire maintenance is critical to the safe operation of a vehicle. It also improves fuel economy, extends tire life, provides better handling, prevents avoidable breakdowns and reduces harmful emissions.
Most importantly, proper tire care really is simple. All it takes is five minutes of time each month!

Here are some tips to consider:
Measure your tire pressure monthly to detect under- or over-inflation
Ensure all tires, including your spare, are filled to the recommended pressure (you can easily find this info in your vehicle’s owner’s guide)
Have your tires aligned annually and rotated regularly
Tires should be balanced every 20,000 km or if you notice a vibration
Inspect for tread wear and replace tires when necessary
Check for embedded stones, glass and other debris, which can cause tire failure or a leak

Your One-Stop Shop for Brake Parts and Service

(Posted on Jul 9, 2016 at 11:23AM by Michelle Bogle)
You made a wise purchase decision when you bought your Ford car or truck. To keep your vehicle operating in top condition, choose only Ford or Motorcraft brake friction parts.
Designed especially for your vehicle, our brake parts are tested as part of the braking system to ensure they meet or exceed federal motor vehicle safety standards. Plus, our parts are tested in on-road conditions (and not in a lab!) to ensure the best performance and accuracy.
Here's how a Ford braking system works:

At Key West Ford, we offer:
Genuine Ford Brake Pads and Shoes: These are Original Equipment (also known as "OE") pads and shoes designed with the exact fit and formulation for your Ford.
Motorcraft Brake Pads and Shoes: These are high-quality pads and shoes also designed for your Ford, but at a more affordable price.
Motorcraft Super Duty Brake Pads and Shoes: These parts are engineered specifically for vehicles that are frequently exposed to severe heat and wear conditions - great for fleet trucks!
Genuine Ford and Motorcraft Rotors and Drums: These parts are engineered to help provide consistent hardness and strength for long-term durability and even wear.
When was the last time you had your brakes inspected? For optimum safety and performance, they should be inspected regularly!
Contact our Service Department at Key West Ford today to book your next maintenance appointment. We will inspect key components and systems on your vehicle, including your brakes, to ensure that your car or truck is performing at its best.
lube oil filter vancouver bcDid you know that hot weather can actually increase your vehicle’s fuel economy? It’s true! Many drivers report that they have to fill up their vehicles less in the summer.
Compared to the cooler winter months, your engine warms up to an efficient temperature faster in nicer weather, summer grades of gasoline can have slightly more energy and warm air causes less aerodynamic drag than cold air.
However, driving with your windows rolled down or blasting your car’s air conditioning system can reduce your fuel economy. There’s a fine line between your comfort and fuel savings.
To help you go farther on each tank of gas, here are some simple tips to help improve your fuel economy this summer:
Roll the windows down at lower speeds and save the AC for highway speeds
Don't use more AC than needed
Park in the shade or use a sunshade to keep your car’s cabin cool while not in use
If your vehicle is equipped with a moonroof, keep the roof shade closed to reduce heat buildup
Drive with the windows open for a short time before using the AC to help cool your vehicle faster
Don't idle with the AC running before driving – most systems will cool the vehicle faster while driving
For plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, pre-cooling the cabin while plugged into the charger can extend your vehicle's range and use less battery power
Keep up with your vehicle’s regular maintenance to ensure your vehicle is operating at its peak efficiency
Want to learn more? Contact our Service Department at Key West Ford today to book your next maintenance appointment! We will inspect key components and systems on your vehicle, including your AC, to ensure your car or truck is performing at its best.

Tire Safety and Maintenance Tips for Summer

(Posted on Jun 24, 2016 at 12:35PM by Michelle Bogle)
tire inspections in vancouver bcSummer is upon us in New Westminster, British Columbia, which likely means that you have a road trip or family adventure coming up.
Before you load up your car or truck and set off to your next destination, have your tires inspected by our experts at Key West Ford!
Did you know that, according to a recent study, about 70% of the vehicles on the road in Canada have at least one tire that is either over- or under-inflated by more than 10%? It's true!
In fact, 23% of all vehicles surveyed had at least one tire under-inflated by 20%. This represents a real safety issue – and one that is not always visible to the untrained eye.
Operating a vehicle with just one tire under-inflated by 56 kPa (8 psi) can:
Reduce the life of the tire by 10,000 km
Increase your vehicle’s fuel consumption by up to 3%
Lead to sudden tire failure
The bottom line: regular tire maintenance will save you money at the pumps, increase your tire life and keep you safe on the roads this summer. Now, who doesn’t want that?
To learn more, please contact our Service Department to book your next maintenance appointment, which also includes a thorough tire inspection.
From all of us at Key West Ford, stay safe and have fun this summer!

car truck automotive service vancouver bcWiper blades are an important maintenance item on your car or truck, but many drivers fail to replace them often enough.

In fact, the average vehicle has wiper blades that are 2.9 years old!
Properly functioning wiper blades give a clear view of the road, especially in poor weather conditions, which is why it’s recommended to replace your wipers every six months.
Since the blades are made of rubber, they deteriorate over time by becoming hard and brittle. Here are some common warning signs to watch out for:
Chattering or squeaking
Banding or streaking
Beading of fine water droplets
Haze or oily build up
Cracked or split rubber
Hard rubber
Pitted, scarred or discoloured rubber
Bent or damaged wiper frame
Yellow wear indicator
If your wipers are showing one or more warning signs, it’s time to replace them!
At Key West Ford, we inspect wiper blades and arms on each vehicle in for service, so you can see better, especially in poor weather conditions.

If you are due for a replacement, our knowledgeable Service Advisors and Technicians can recommend the right set of wiper blades to fit your vehicle. It’s an inexpensive and quick maintenance item that offers big results!
See clearly! Contact our Service Department today to book your next maintenance appointment.
