ford service centre in bcSpringtime in the Lower Mainland – there’s nothing better! Tulips are blooming, people are enjoying the great outdoors – but, your car? It’s covered with a layer of road salt and is trudging along in winter tires. Spring is a time for rejuvenation – and that includes your vehicle.

Here are seven ways to give your Ford some TLC this season:
1. Clean the underbelly – Road salt is extremely corrosive and will damage the paint and frame of your vehicle. Each spring, give your Ford a good spray down with a garden hose using high pressure.
2. Replace your windshield wipers – Your wipers should be replaced every six months, especially before the rainy season begins. You want to be sure that your visibility isn’t compromised by worn-out blades.
3. Deep clean from the inside out – Just like you scrub your home each spring, your car deserves the same. This includes cleaning all surfaces and windows inside your vehicle (don’t forget your floor mats) and washing/waxing the exterior of your Ford.
4. Swap your winter tires – Once the outside temp climbs above 7°C, it’s time to switch back to your all-season tires for better fuel efficiency and performance.
5. Inspect your brakes – Road salt can also do a number on your brakes, especially the pads. When you swap your tires, have your brakes inspected to ensure they are in good working condition.
6. Check your alignment – Potholes are notorious for kicking vehicles out of alignment, which will cause your tires to wear down faster – plus your ride quality will suffer. To avoid these issues, have your alignment inspected each spring.
7. Measure your tire pressure – Temperature swings can wreak havoc on your tire pressure, which can cause poor fuel economy. Check your Owner’s Manual to ensure your tires are inflated with the correct psi.
Give your Ford the spring treatment it deserves. To book your service appointment today, contact us at Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C.

Stay Safe with Regular Maintenance in Vancouver, B.C.

(Posted on Feb 21, 2018 at 05:00AM by Michelle Bogle)
ford automotive maintenance in bcKeeping your vehicle regularly maintained is essential to your safety on the road. However, sometimes things do go wrong.

If you experience
a breakdown, there are some things to bear in mind.
Pull over
If you suspect a mechanical issue with your vehicle, signal your intent and pull off to the shoulder, being sure that you position your car as far away from traffic as possible. If you are worried about being hit from behind, leave your vehicle and move to a safe location.
Remain visible
Make sure your car is visible to other motorists, roadside assistance operators and emergency crews by activating the hazard lights on your vehicle.
Take stock
Make note of any unusual sights, sounds, smells or warning lights and consider whether your car was responding differently before the breakdown. This information can be helpful when your Technician is diagnosing the problem.
Call for help
If you have a roadside assistance plan for your vehicle, call them with your location, a summary of the problem and a description of the car. However, if you break down on a busy highway or have been in a collision, call your local police and follow their directions.
At Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C., your safety is our top priority. Our factory-trained Technicians have the knowledge and know-how to keep your vehicle operating in top condition so you aren't burdened with unnecessary breakdowns.

car care in vancouver bcIf you have trouble keeping up with your vehicle's maintenance schedule, you are not alone. According to a study by the Care Car Council, an astonishing 84% of vehicles surveyed required immediate service. Among these issues were low or dirty oil, contaminated air filters and inadequate coolant levels.
And in the automotive world, these issues are very easy and inexpensive fixes when done regularly. But, when left neglected, they have the potential to lead to serious and costly repairs - not to mention that they also put your health and safety at risk.

ford recalls in bcKeeping up with recall notices for your Ford car or truck is crucial, as it ensures the continuous and safe operation of your vehicle.
Typically, you’ll be notified of recalls in two ways – either you’ll receive a written notice from Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited, or you'll receive a phone call or email from the dealership that you purchased your vehicle from.
And when you do receive information regarding a recall, it’s best to act on it right away. Oftentimes, it’s to address a relatively insignificant issue, such as windshield wiper malfunction, which requires a quick service appointment. If it’s a larger repair, you might need to leave your vehicle at the dealership, but those details can be worked out when you book your appointment.
If you feel that you might be behind on recalls, it is recommended that you call your dealership and ask a Service Advisor to run your vehicle identification number (VIN) through the system.
Remember: staying up to date on your Ford's maintenance needs has its rewards, as does servicing your vehicle at Key West Ford in New Westminster, B.C. To learn more, contact us today.

Winterize Your Ford in New Westminster, B.C.

(Posted on Nov 16, 2017 at 06:24AM by Michelle Bogle)
winter tires in vancouver bcWhile we don’t get the same amount of snow as other parts of Canada, we do experience our fair share of winter in the Lower Mainland, B.C. And while driving on icy or snow-covered roads can be difficult, you’ll have a better chance of staying safe if you winterize your Ford before the temperature starts to drop.
Not sure how best to get your vehicle winter-ready? Here are some must-do maintenance items to complete this November:
1. Install winter tires:
As soon as the temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius, you will benefit from the enhanced traction and grip that winter tires provide. Be sure to also check the air pressure, as cold air can cause the pressure in your tires to drop, which can affect your Ford’s ability to grip ice and snow.
2. Check, change and top up fluids:
This includes everything from engine coolant and oil to windshield washer fluid and gas. Over the winter, always try to keep your gas topped up to avoid condensation in the tank.
3. Inspect wiper blades, battery, brakes and belts:
If any of these parts or components are showing wear, are in need of replacement or have passed their life expectancy, be sure to replace them now to avoid an unexpected breakdown on a cold, snowy night.
4. Check your air conditioning and block heater:
You’re a/c is responsible for defrosting and de-humidifying the inside of your car, so you want to make sure it’s functioning even in the winter months. The same goes for your Ford’s block heater.
5. Inspect your exhaust systems:
Look for leaks in exhaust pipes or the muffler, as this can cause carbon monoxide poisoning and decreased fuel efficiency.
6. Pack an emergency kit:
This should include some cold-weather supplies for you and your passengers, like a blanket, extra
hats and mitts, ice scraper, shovel, road salt, first aid kit, bottled water, snacks, etc. Should an unexpected breakdown occur, you want to be prepared.
