Just like you change your furnace's air filter in the fall, you need to give the same attention to your vehicle.
In the summer months, your car’s engine air filter collects dirt, debris and even bugs. Its job is to keep these harmful particles from entering the engine’s cylinders, allowing for optimal performance. When the filter becomes plugged, air pressure drops and your car's fuel economy, power and emissions begin to deteriorate. The longer you leave the dirty filter in place, the worse your vehicle's performance will get.
This video explains more:
That’s why we always recommend that you change your engine air filter as outlined in your Owner’s Guide, but especially in the fall.
To do so, all you need to do is book an appointment at our Service Department here at Key West Ford. Our factory-trained Technicians will change your filter and inspect the rest of your vehicle to ensure that your Ford car or truck is running safety, in top condition and not behind on any regularly scheduled maintenance.
To learn more about the importance of changing your engine air filter, contact us today to speak with an advisor.

Every time you get behind the wheel to drive, your engine is working hard to keep your car or truck in motion. And, with so many parts working together under the hood, your engine gets hot – very hot.
However, the oils inside your engine keep the combustion chamber cool, which allows the components to function at their best, while also ensuring that carbon and other harmful materials don’t build up in the engine.
Having said that, your engine is not going to perform well if its oil is dirty. Oil filters keep contaminants out, but if your filter is clogged, filthy or old, particles can get into your engine, which can lead to damage and poor fuel economy. In extreme cases, this can also result in engine failure.
To avoid an expensive repair, it’s better to invest in a fresh oil filter every time you change your oil. This is a very cost-effective and smart way to treat your Ford’s engine right, and to prevent a serious breakdown from happening in the future.
While we perform your oil and filter service, our Technicians will also take the time to inspect the rest of your vehicle to ensure that your Ford car or truck is running safety, in top condition and not behind on any regularly scheduled maintenance.

If you’ve fallen victim to a vehicle with stale air, a dusty interior or a less-than-fresh odour, it might be time to replace the cabin air filter in your Ford car or truck. In most vehicles, this filter is located behind the glove box and can easily be swapped out on your own or by a Technician.
If you want to tackle this yourself, follow these six easy steps:
1.Refer to your Ford Owner’s Guide, which shows the location and type of filter used in your vehicle.
2.Purchase the right Motorcraft cabin air filter for your vehicle, which is available from our Parts Department.
3.Access the cabin air filter and pop out the old filter by pushing on the inner plastic tabs.
4.Following the instructions on the package, insert the new filter and discard the old one.
5.Note in your Owner’s Guide the date and odometer reading of your new cabin air filter.
6.Repeat again in 35,000 to 50,000 kilometres to ensure that you always have clean air cycling throughout your vehicle.
Rather leave this job up to the professionals? Our service experts at Key West Ford can help! To book your next maintenance appointment, contact our Service Department today.

The cabin air filter plays an important role in the interior of your vehicle by cleaning the air that comes through the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. It catches dust, pollen and other airborne materials that can make riding in a car unpleasant, particularly if you have allergies or respiratory issues.
That’s why it’s important to change your vehicle’s cabin air filter as part of your regular maintenance – about every 20,000 - 24,000 km, depending on your driving habits and what’s listed in your Owner’s Guide. And, it’s an easy maintenance item to complete in your own driveway – no service appointment required.
1.Check your Owner’s Guide to find out what type of air filter you need and its location (most are found in the glove box).
2.Buy the right filter for your car or truck.
Tip: Did you know that Motorcraft cabin air filters are designed specifically for your Ford and that they remove microscopic particles as small as three microns, which is less than a tenth of the size of a human hair?
3.Access the cabin air filter, then pop it out by depressing the inner plastic tabs.
4.Insert the new filter, following the directions on the packaging.
5.Dispose of the old filter.
6.Note the date and odometer reading of the newly installed filter so you know when it needs to be changed in the future.
That’s it – super easy!
But, of course, if you’d rather leave this job to the pros, that’s not a problem. Simply contact our Service Department at Key West Ford to book your next maintenance appointment and our Technicians will replace your cabin air filter for you using Motorcraft parts.

Cabin air filters protect a vehicle’s interior from dust, dirt, pollen, mold spores and other nasty airborne particles. The filters work through the HVAC systems and help provide cleaner safer air quality.
Did you know that air drawn into a vehicle through the ventilation system can contain millions of microscopic particles, which can clog a car or truck’s HVAC system and reduce performance?
It’s true! Passengers in the vehicle also breathe these particles in.
The good news is that cabin air filters remove over 90% of pollen and road dust larger than 3 microns, which is far smaller than the average human hair at 90 microns. Not only does this improve air quality, but also the performance of the HVAC system for proper heating and cooling.
What’s also interesting is that many vehicle owners are unaware that their car or truck is equipped with a cabin air filtration system, which requires regular maintenance, like filter changes, to ensure its proper function. The general rule of thumb is to replace cabin air filters at 20,000 km, or even sooner if you frequent dusty or dirty roads.
At Key West Ford, our Ford-trained Technicians will not only inspect your cabin air filter at each service, but they can also install replacement filters, which many aftermarket retailers do not stock. It only takes a few minutes to complete and is an inexpensive fix to ensure cleaner cabin air.

Filters are a vital component in any vehicle as they are designed to keep harmful particles away from various systems in the vehicle, thus ensuring peak performance and engine cleanliness.
There are a number of different filters in a car or truck, including:
Oil Filters: these filters protect the interior of the engine by removing abrasives, such as carbon, sand, dust and bits of metal
Air Filters: these filters help keep the proper mix of clean air and fuel in the engine, and any harmful particles out
Fuel Filters: these filters help ensure the delivery of clean fuel from the gas tank to the engine by filtering out any impurities, which can cause serious engine problems
Cabin Air Filters: these filters protect the vehicle interior from unwanted air particles, like dust, road salt, dirt and pollen
All filters within a vehicle require regular maintenance to ensure increased fuel efficiency and optimal engine performance. A poorly maintained filter can lead to serious car troubles and costly repairs, which is why it’s key to follow your vehicle’s recommended maintenance schedules.
In general, oil and filters should be replaced every six months; however, they should be replaced more regularly in heavy-duty conditions. This includes towing, carrying heavy loads, extensive idling, constant stop-and-go traffic, commercial operations, dusty or off-road conditions.
Are you due for an oil and filter change?
We can help! Contact our Service Department today to book your next maintenance appointment.
Dirty miles stretch before you - an endless series of dust, gravel, and endless puddles. The season has left the roads wet and unforgiving; and you glance toward your car, wondering if the filter is sturdy enough for the journey. It’s been... quite a while since you even spared it a thought.
Key West Ford suggests offering your engine more than a mere thought. Visit us instead for a filter replacement.
Air filters prove essential to the performance of every vehicle, with Cars.com reporting that clogged components negatively impact acceleration by up to 11%. This reduces both power and speed, and it even compromises overall economy. It becomes crucial, therefore, to regularly change these options to ensure steady results.
Too often, though, do drivers forget about their filters - instead leaving countless contaminants, debris, and oil traces in their engine. Years of abuse eventually take a toll.
Don’t let this happen. Instead follow this simple model for determining when a filter change is needed:
One: Inspection. View the filter to assess its condition. Should it prove dirty - with the intake edges blackened - it may be time for a change.
Two: Specifications. Check your manufacturer manual to see how often it recommends a change. Each brand is different. Ford, for example, usually suggests 30,000 miles but Chevrolet often claims 45,000. Study each guide with care to gauge the proper maintenance times.
Should either of these elements reveal a need for a new filter, come to Key West Ford. We’ll provide a quick and efficient replacement for every model.
